Afterglow I

Afterglow (I) and Afterglow (II) are video works, that along with performances: Sunrise Sunset and Sunrise Sunset (manifesto), are yet another iteration of Przemek Kamiński’s long-term research regarding the life and work of the American dancer and choreographer Fred Herko.

Afterglow (I) and Afterglow (II) revisit Herko’s forgotten and incomplete archive that consists of various materials, references and accounts by his peers (like Andy Warhol, Jill Johnston, Elaine Summers, Diane di Prima) and Herko himself – in order to bring them to life, extend and reimagine. Both works are a kaleidoscope of moving images soaked with Herko’s queer utopian spirit of the unfinished, the too-late and the not-yet-there. They do not offer a linear biographical narrative but instead, engage in speculation, re-writing and re-imagining his incomplete archive. Perhaps documenting what has never been documented.
